Varsity Chorus visits NYC

This past weekend, the varsity chorus traveled to NYC! These students worked with professional Broadway directors and actors such as Sean Montgomery and Adam Laird to learn about stage combat, singing, and dance. The professionals leading the workshops were incredibly impressed with our students and had nothing but high praise for their work and the work Ms. V is doing with them here in NC. Our students were thrilled to learn that Sean Montgomery, an actor currently in “Beetlejuice the Musical,” played Agatha Trunchbull in “Matilda” on Broadway. David Martin, FA’s very own Trunchbull, got to ask him questions about how to bring this character to life. Our students also performed at the Cathedral of St. John the Devine where Ms. V accompanied our students on Duke Ellington’s piano! The Varsity Chorus also got to attend two Broadway shows and explore many things NY has to offer including Times Square, Rockefeller Plaza, Central Park, and more. One of the highlights was the Disney Broadway Behind the Magic Tour where our students toured and learned about the history of the Amsterdam Theatre which is where Disney’s Aladdin is currently running. The students stood on that Broadway stage and learned some secrets about the magic behind this production. Everyone also got to touch, try on, and play with costumes and props from other Disney Broadway shows such as Mary Poppins and the Lion King. This was an experience our students most certainly will never forget.
