Board of Trustees Renews Contract of Head of School

May 24, 2018

The Board of Trustees is delighted to announce that Raymond J. Quesnel has agreed to accept our enthusiastic recommendation to continue serving as Head of School of the Fayetteville Academy. The Board’s year-long review process came to the unmistakable conclusion that Mr. Quesnel’s leadership has resulted in a stronger, fiscally sound Fayetteville Academy, which is well positioned to continue its tradition of leadership and accomplishment. The Board looks forward to Ray leading the Fayetteville Academy through the upcoming 50th golden anniversary and beyond!

During Ray’s six years as Head of School, there have been numerous accomplishments, some easily seen and others behind the scenes, continuing the Academy’s undisputed status as the premier, private school in the region and among the best in North Carolina.  Just as important is Ray’s passionate embrace of Fayetteville Academy and Fayetteville. Ray is very active in the community as a member of the Methodist University Board of Visitors and President of the Kiwanis Club. He has also served as a local radio host.

Mr. Quesnel’s leadership in financial management has been superb, resulting in annual balanced budgets; the founding of new endowments to provide long-term financial stability; the use of long-range models to anticipate revenue needs and fundraising; the beginning of projects such as the Harrison Tennis Academy; and our new Smart Lab. Along with the Board, Ray has been instrumental in reviewing financial and regulatory risk, resulting in a stable and secure Academy.

The Board recognizes Ray’s commitment to serving all the students and families at the Academy. His vision has resulted in noticeable accomplishments for the school, while maintaining and embracing Fayetteville Academy’s long-standing traditions. Ray understands his role as one of service to the children, alumni, staff, parents, and friends of the school. The Board recognizes Ray’s hard work, dedication, and his deliberative, thoughtful nature while always striving to make the best decisions for the school.

Next year will mark Mr. Quesnel’s 30th year in private school education, leadership, and administration. Ray is a graduate of the University of Vermont and attended graduate school at Western Carolina University while beginning his career at the Asheville School and Forsyth Country Day. He has been a classroom teacher, residential dean, academic dean, Upper School director, coach, athletic director, and assistant headmaster prior to his appointment as Head of School at Fayetteville Academy.  Mr. Quesnel has been an active member of the North Carolina Association of Independent Schools and the North Carolina Independent Schools Athletic Association. Fayetteville Academy is fortunate to have a Head of School with this breadth of experience.

The Board of Trustees sincerely thanks every member of the Fayetteville Academy community for their support and dedication to our school family. While many schools struggle with leadership turnover, the Fayetteville Academy is extremely blessed to have an experienced and successful Head of School who embraces the school community. Please congratulate Ray and Wendy on their continued and, hopefully, long-term commitment to the school. The future is bright for Fayetteville Academy, and with Ray Quesnel’s leadership, we will continue to Soar Higher, Soar Together, and Soar Forever!

Sincerely,

Fayetteville Academy Board of Trustees
