Area: 1st Grade
Mrs. Cogswell has been a renowned music teacher and performer for over 40 years. She has a Bachelor of Music Education with Piano Principal degree from Florida State University and has completed graduate studies in piano performance at Meredith University. She holds certifications in both Kindermusik and Musikgarten. Mrs. Cogswell has extensive teaching experience, ranging from church youth choirs to individual lessons to music camps and academies. She still serves as Director of the Snyder Music Academy and teaches Kindermusik once a week to children at the Fayetteville Metropolitan Housing Authority. Mrs. Cogswell enjoys teaching a few children at home for private piano lessons.
Mr. Harbison earned a B.S. degree in Electrical Engineering from Arizona State University in 1969 and a M.S. degree in Human Resource Management and Personnel Administration from the University of Utah in 1977. Mr. Harbison has 10 years of full-time teaching experience at the Fayetteville Academy (1997-2007) teaching Middle and Upper School science, math, and technology classes. After a short break, John returned in 2013 as a stalwart substitute teacher throughout the entire academy in all disciplines. In 2017, John accepted part time duty as a first-grade science teacher. This year John responsibilities will include teaching second -grade science as well.
Ms. Hensley graduated from Towson University with a BS in Early Childhood Education and went on to receive her MA in Leadership in Teaching with a concentration in Cultural Proficiency from Notre Dame University of Maryland. Ms. Hensley has spent five years as an early childhood education teacher in the Baltimore County public school system, and she received her Maryland educator’s certification while doing so. In her spare time Ms. Hensley is a certified Cross Fit trainer and judge.
Mrs. Reeder holds a bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education from Campbell University and a master’s degree in Educational Leadership from Kansas State University. She has been teaching since 2008.
Mrs. Smith holds a B.S. from Methodist University. She has served the Academy since 1990.
Mrs. Young joins our faculty after several years of involvement as a substitute teacher and parent volunteer at F.A. She received an A.A. degree from Louisburg College and also holds a B.S. in Sociology with a minor in Elementary Education from Methodist University. Mrs. Young has five years of experience as a full-time teacher at Northwood Temple Academy and Glendale Acres. She has also received Gesell training and her certification in that program. Her two children, Ashlyn and Kenneth, are currently students in our Lower School.
